Sylvester Weaver’s “Guitar Blues” / “Guitar Rag” are said to be the very first country-blues recordings and the first known recorded songs of slide guitar, using a knife blade or the sawed-off neck of a bottle. “Guitar Rag” (which Weaver is said to have played on a Guitjo) became a blues classic.

In 1936, Leon McAuliffe “took” Sylvester Weaver’s “Guitar Rag”, re-invented it and recorded it as “Steel Guitar Rag” with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
